Gavin Parsons

Gavin is the Managing Director of the firm and holds a Diploma of Laws (LPAB) and a Diploma of Legal Practice.

Immediately prior to opening his own law firm in April 2014, Gavin refined his legal skills as a Senior Associate at a medium-sized law firm based in the Sydney CBD.  During these years Gavin demonstrated his unique abilities and passion for the law whilst acting for a wide range of clientele providing quality legal advice in a diverse range of legal fields.

Prior to commencing private practice in 2009, Gavin had a successful career with various NSW State Government agencies over a period of nine years. Gavin spent several years at the Victims Compensation Tribunal and the Office of Fair Trading and also served as Manager of the Administrative Decisions Tribunal Registry. Gavin has been practicing in and around the law for 20+ years.

Commercial Litigation - acting for individuals and businesses in commercial matters including trade practices, debt recovery, corporate law and commercial contracts

Commercial and Business Law - drafting and/or negotiating a broad range of contracts, agreements and legal documents for all sizes of companies and businesses.  Advising clients on a wide range of legal issues including corporations law, trade practices, competition and consumer laws and both state and federal legislative requirements

Employment law - acting for employers and employees. Preparing, updating and implementing workplace policies, assisting with the performance of workplace investigations to minimise liability and manage risks, dispute resolution; and litigation including appearing in the Fair Work Commission, Federal Court of Australia and the Federal Circuit Court of Australia

Bankruptcy and Insolvency - acting for and advising individuals and companies facing bankruptcy or insolvency. Acting for and advising Administrators and Liquidators regarding the administration or liquidation of small and medium companies including strategy, recovery, settlement, the realisation of assets and other bankruptcy and insolvency issues

Estate and Succession Planning - advising clients, preparing and drafting Wills, Powers of Attorney and Guardianship instruments

Intellectual Property - advising and acting for companies and individuals in relation to trade marks, passing off, copyright, business reputations and the enforcement of intellectual property rights.

Administrative Law - advising clients, preparing applications, acting for individuals and businesses and appearing in various government tribunals including Victims Compensation Tribunal, Consumer Trader and Tenancy Tribunal and Administrative Decisions Tribunal which as of January 2014 were all incorporated into the new NSW Civil and Administrative Tribunal.


Rodrigo Cerda Salas

Rodrigo is a Senior Associate at Gavin Parsons and Associates and holds a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) and a Bachelor of Arts (BArts) from the University of Sydney and a Bachelor of Music with Distinction (BMus) from Western Sydney University (for which he was awarded the Dean’s Medal).

Rodrigo is an exceptionally knowledgeable and experienced lawyer with expertise in commercial law and litigation, with a particular emphasis on insolvency law, insurance law and taxation law. Throughout his career, Rodrigo has conducted both litigious and non-litigious disputes in a range of Australian jurisdictions with a focus on Australia’s Superior Courts, such as the Federal Court of Australia, the Supreme Court of New South Wales, the Supreme Court of Victoria, the Supreme Court of Queensland and the Supreme Court of Western Australia.  In addition, Rodrigo’s clients have included a very broad range from individuals and small companies to prominent national and international companies including some of Australia’s largest national insurers and international insurers.

Prior to commencing his work in private practice as a litigator in 2011, Rodrigo also obtained significant commercial advisory experience advising clients on both direct and indirect tax issues at global professional services firms, such as Deloitte, where he further bolstered both his technical proficiency and commercial acumen.  Rodrigo’s diverse experience is demonstrative of both his extraordinary legal capability and versatility, which means that is he uniquely placed to effectively service our clients’ diverse legal needs.

In summary, Rodrigo’s comprehensive and variety of experience includes the following:

Commercial Litigation – A proven track record litigating matters in the High Court of Australia, the Local, District and Supreme Courts of New South Wales, the Federal Court of Australia, the Supreme Court of Queensland, the Supreme Court of Victoria, the Supreme Court of Western Australia and the ACT Magistrates Court.  Rodrigo’s litigation experience encompasses a wide range of commercial disputes including contractual disputes, disputes relating to insolvency and bankruptcy, insurance law disputes (relating to both general insurance and liability insurance), taxation law disputes and aviation disputes.

Insolvency – Advising and acting for and against Liquidators, Administrators, Trustees in Bankruptcy, and creditors on a variety of corporate insolvency and bankruptcy matters, including preference claims, insolvent transactions, transactions to defeat creditors and much more.

Commercial Law – Drafting, advising on and negotiating a broad range of commercial contracts, shareholder agreements, contracts for sale, employment contracts, loan agreements, leases, deeds of release and settlement - are merely some of the many contracts and legal instruments Rodrigo can assist you with.

Employment Law – Advising and acting for clients (both employers and employees) across a range of employment matters, including employment law disputes and encompassing the review, drafting and negotiation of employment contracts and unfair dismissal and adverse action claims.

Notwithstanding, Rodrigo’s extensive legal background and experience, he is also someone with diverse interests and an interdisciplinary tertiary education including degrees in both Arts (Psychology and Social Anthropology) and Music. Outside of work, Rodrigo has a strong interest in the arts, particularly music, as well as politics and public policy.
